Türkiye welcomes Omani Sultan in first-ever state visit

SEOUL, November 29 (AJP) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman to Ankara on Thursday in a historic first state visit from Oman to Türkiye.

"This is the first-ever visit at the level of head of state from Oman to Türkiye,” Erdoğan said. He emphasized the deep historical ties between the nations and pledged to strengthen relations in areas including trade, health, agriculture, and defense.

During the visit, Türkiye and Oman signed 10 agreements to enhance cooperation. Erdoğan announced plans to increase bilateral trade to $5 billion and highlighted the contribution of Turkish firms to Oman's development, with completed projects worth $7 billion.

The leaders also discussed regional issues, including Israel's actions in Gaza. Erdoğan emphasized Türkiye's readiness to mediate for peace, saying, "We cannot find regional or global peace until an immediate, just, and lasting ceasefire is established in Gaza."

Sultan Haitham expressed gratitude for Türkiye's role in Oman's development and called for further collaboration in energy, renewable energy, defense, and education. He also mentioned  the establishment of a joint investment fund to deepen economic ties.

In a ceremonial exchange, Erdoğan awarded Sultan Haitham the Order of State, while the Sultan presented Erdoğan with the Order of Al Said. Erdoğan also gifted the Sultan the "Istanbul Mushaf," a handwritten Quran compilation.

The visit concluded with a dinner at the Presidential Complex, where delegations from both countries explored further opportunities for cooperation.
