In the men's PTS4 event for athletes with limb deficiencies, Hideki Uda, a silver medalist from the Tokyo Games, finished 12th. France's Alexis Hanquinquant clinched his second consecutive gold with a time of 58 minutes and 1 second.
"It ended up being a hard race. Essentially, what I put in was not enough," Uda said, expressing disappointment with his performance.
The competition took place at Pont Alexandre III, an ornate bridge in central Paris temporarily converted into the event venue. Paralympic triathlons consist of a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer cycle, and 5-kilometer run.
The event's postponement came after recent rainfall affected the Seine's water quality, echoing similar issues during the Olympic Games. Swimming in the river Seine has been banned since 1923, but authorities have invested about $1.5 billion in cleanup efforts and infrastructure upgrades.
