SEOUL, Sept. 06 (AJP) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reaffirmed that Israeli forces will remain in the Philadelphi Corridor, a critical area in southern Gaza along the Egyptian border. Speaking to international journalists, Netanyahu stated he is "open" to considering alternatives to Israeli military presence in this region as part of a future ceasefire deal, but he does not see such options materializing in the near future.

Netanyahu emphasized that Israeli troops are necessary to prevent the smuggling of weapons and hostages across the border. He insisted that securing and defending the Philadelphi Corridor is crucial for any lasting ceasefire. Until a viable and reliable alternative is proven over time, Israel will maintain its military presence in the area.

While he expressed a slight willingness to explore other options, Netanyahu made it clear that Israel's security is a priority, describing the presence in the corridor as a "red line." He rejected further concessions following recent Hamas attacks, calling them "illogical," "immoral," and "insane."

Some reports indicate that Israeli security officials, including the defense minister, have suggested other solutions, such as advanced monitoring systems or the involvement of allied forces. However, tensions have surfaced between Netanyahu and his defense leaders, with some accusing him of delaying negotiations. Netanyahu maintains that his main focus is ensuring Israel’s safety and holds Hamas responsible for the lack of progress toward a ceasefire.

Ceasefire negotiations are based on a phased approach supported by U.S. President Joe Biden. Although reports suggest that Israel may consider troop withdrawal later in the process, many issues remain unresolved at the initial stages of these discussions.
