On Friday, a Vistara Airlines flight carrying 13 crew members and 234 passengers took off from Mumbai, India, en route to Frankfurt, Germany, when a crew member discovered a note in the restroom stating, "Bomb on board."
The aircraft changed its course and made an emergency landing at Erzurum, about 870 kilometers from Ankara, the capital of Turkey, at 4:30 p.m. All passengers were evacuated.
As a precaution, all takeoffs and landings at Erzurum Airport were suspended until 9 p.m.
Authorities in Erzurum dispatched bomb experts and detection dogs to search the plane, but no explosives were found. "As of 11:30 p.m., we have completed all search and examination operations. As a result of the work we carried out, we found that the bomb threat was unfounded," Mustafa Çiftçi, the governor of Erzurum, said at a press conference.
