Li made these remarks during his research and investigation tour in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from Tuesday to Thursday.
The TSFP is the world's largest afforestation project, aimed at combating desertification in northwest, north, and northeast China. It was launched in 1978, with completion expected by 2050.
While in Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia, Li praised the local efforts in controlling desertification, encouraging the city to strengthen its regional cooperation and explore diverse operations to boost local incomes.
He also emphasized the importance of ongoing research in energy technology and advocated for expanding the deep processing of coal resources. Li suggested increasing policy guidance and support, while focusing on optimizing building spaces, particularly rooftops, to tap into new energy sources like photovoltaic power.
During his visits to Ordos and Hohhot in Inner Mongolia, Li conducted field research on various initiatives, including soil and water conservation, forest belt development, dairy technology innovation, and ecological research. He also looked into grass and seed research, as well as efforts to improve crop varieties.
Li underlined the significance of continuing major ecological projects like the TSFP and reinforcing the ecological security barrier in northern China. He called for support for qualified enterprises to carry out essential research that promotes technological innovation and industrial advancement in related sectors.
At a thermal power company and a project that integrates desertification control with wind and photovoltaic power development, Li stressed the importance of blending traditional and new energy sources.
He also highlighted the need for cleaner and more efficient use of coal, improving power generation and heating efficiency, and ensuring that people stay warm in winter.
