U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a press briefing on Monday that the alliance, which he called "the cornerstone of peace, security and prosperity" in the region and across the world for over seven decades, has "never been stronger."
The statement came after Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's Liberal Democratic Party and its coalition partner Komeito lost their parliamentary majority in Sunday's general election, securing only 215 seats in the 465-member lower house.
The timing of Japan's political turmoil adds another layer of complexity to regional dynamics, as the United States prepares for a presidential election next week amid growing security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.
