SEOUL, November 21 (AJP) - Japan recorded its highest-ever monthly tourist arrivals in October with 3.31 million visitors, surpassing the previous record of 3.29 million set in July.

The surge in international arrivals reported by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) on Wednesday, up from 2.87 million in September, has been attributed to the depreciated yen and seasonal attractions, with autumn foliage driving increased tourism demand across multiple markets from Asia, Europe, and North America.

Foreign visitors have spent 5.86 trillion yen ($37.72 billion) through September this year, already exceeding the full-year record of 5.3 trillion yen set in 2023.

The cumulative visitor count through October reached about 30.2 million, approaching the pre-pandemic annual record of 31.9 million established in 2019.

Tourism spending is poised to become the nation's second-largest export category, trailing only automotive exports and surpassing electronic components.
