SEOUL, November 22 (AJP) - A Bangkok court on Wednesday sentenced 37-year-old Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn to death for killing at least 14 people with cyanide between 2015 and 2023, with one victim surviving the poisonings.

The court found Sararat guilty of fatally poisoning a woman in her 30s last April, luring the victim to the Maeklong River in Bangkok for a fish-release ceremony before administering cyanide-laced food and water.

Police investigations revealed Sararat, who showed no remorse during the trial, killed her victims to avoid repaying gambling debts, including one case where she borrowed 300,000 baht ($8,600) from a victim before killing them and stealing their jewelry.

The court also sentenced her ex-husband, a former police officer, and his lawyer to one year and four months and two years in prison, respectively, for helping conceal evidence. "Justice has been served... Rest in peace now. You have nothing to worry about," said the mother of one victim after the verdict.
