SEOUL, November 25 (AJP) - China is set to provide 1 billion yuan ($193 million) to Myanmar's military government for 20 different projects, including infrastructure, surveillance systems and census operations, Myanmar Now reported on Sunday, citing internal documents from the junta's Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations.

The financial support was reportedly finalized during junta chief Min Aung Hlaing's first visit to China earlier this month since the 2021 coup, where he met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang. About 15 percent of the funds will be allocated to the junta's census efforts ahead of planned elections next year, while the remainder will support hydropower plants and bridge construction projects.

"The Myanmar people face an invisible crisis as attention turns elsewhere, and the provision of weapons and other support to the military by some governments has led to an increase in atrocities," U.N. Special Rapporteur on Myanmar, Thomas Andrews, told the General Assembly in his report.
