It even reported that weeping owls flew into the Kim family mausoleum in the centre of the capital, Pyongyang. Meanwhile, mysterious flashes of light were reportedly seen in the skies above the world‘s last totalitarian state.
At the funeral, a black limousine carrying a giant portrait of the dead leader moved across the parade ground as the hearse with his coffin followed.
Kim Jong un, the leader’s son and heir, marched alongside. Troops were arrayed along the capital boulevards. “Our comrade, who established the most independent nation, did everything he could do in the world, both great and tiny works, for the glory of the country and the happiness of the people,” said the official commentator, apparently choked with grief.
“Our people and army are beating their breasts.” Later, an onlooker cried out: “Fatherly general!” Without skipping a beat, the commentator responded: “General, can you hear this? The sound of the suffering of the patriotic martyrs?”
The procession passed through Kim Il-sung square, built in 1953 from the crushed rubble of the city‘s ruins after the devastation of the Korean War.
Kim jong-il's embalmed body will most likely lay along with his father, Kim il Sung.
