Korean Wave hit Asian with Korean boy bands and Korean soap operas, What began as an interest in Korean entertainment has grown deeper into an interest in Korean culture and language.

Thailand‘s capital city Bangkok has grown a great amount of interest in Korea the past few years. You’ll see a number of bookstores with Korean bestsellers translated into Thai, whether they be books about learning the Korean language or cooking Korean food.

Korean classes at the Sejong Korean Language Institute in Thailand are filling up with students eagerly wanting to learn Korean. This government sponsored language school has grown by leaps and bounds amid increased demand. Korean cuisine has also become a hit in Thailand and more and more traditional Korean restaurants are opening up.

Many business owners attribute the jump in business to Korean dramas such as “Jewel in the Palace” where the story involves around the Korean traditional royal cousins. At the Korean embassy in Thailand, Ambassador Lim Jae-hong believes interest in the Korean Wave is positive impact for Korea.

Korean entertainment has planted the seeds. Now, the interest in other aspects of Korean culture is growing.
