Though Maxx is a rookie K-9 officer, he did not let go of his suspect, now identified as Travis Glaspie (22). In an interview with WECT.com, Glaspie said, he was frightened to be bitten by a dog so he bit back. Then Glaspie was punched twice by Officer Pellegrino before taken into custody.
With a phone interview Corporal David Pellegrino who was at the scene, Officer Pellegrino said Glaspie did not surrender right away. He also added that Maxx bled a lot, and he did not know that “ear could bleed that much”.
Maxx is now back in Wilmington Police Department, resting, and Glaspie is in jail with $1.25 million bail set.
This was not the first incident reported in U.S. to have humans bite dog, but definitely the first incident to have a police dog bitten.
