Young boys ordained as Buddhist novices

Young boys were ordained as novices to learn Buddhist doctrines during a traditional Buddhist novice ordination ceremony held at the Jogye-sa Temple in Jongno-gu, central Seoul, Friday, as part of celebrations to mark the 2,557th birthday of Buddha.

This year, Buddha's Birthday, a national holiday, falls on May 17.

Highlights include a lotus lantern parade along the main Jongno street - from Dongdaemun to Jogye-sa Temple - from 7 p.m.-9:30 p.m., the organizers said.
