President Park to visit Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan June 16-21

South Korea’s President Park Geun-hye plans to visit Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan next week, the presidential office announced Monday.

Park is scheduled to hold summit talks with Uzbek President Islam Karimov on June 17 to discuss ways to implement in a smooth manner gas and thermoelectric power plant projects underway in Uzbekistan, and expand cooperation in such sectors as renewable energy, science/technology and construction/infrastructure, the announcement said.

She will then travel to Kazakhstan for a summit meeting with President Nursultan Nazarbayev on June 19, it said. They are expected to discuss ongoing projects to build a coal-fired power plant and a petrochemical complex, and explore oil in the Central Asian country, in addition to ways of boosting cooperation in science-technology, forestry and the environment.

In Turkmenistan, Park is scheduled to have a summit meeting with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on June 20. Park, the first South Korean head of state to visit Turkmenistan, and Berdimuhamedov will discuss ways to support South Korean firms operating there.
