‘Roaring Current’ draws more than 11.3 million moviegoers

“Roaring ‘Currents,” starring veteran actor Choi Min-sik, was ranked 10th in terms of box-office sales in South Korean film history with 11.3 million audience members as of Aug. 11.

According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) that tracks box-office sales, the film drew 11,304,171 viewers in 13 days since its release on July 30.

It surpassed “Silmido,” a 2003 box-office hit which sold 11,080,000 tickets.

Choi, who starred in “Oldboy” (2003), plays Adm. Yi Sun-sin's, a 16th century naval hero whose 12 “Turtle Ships” won a victory over a fleet of 133 during Japanese Hideyoshi’s invasion of the Korean Peninsula (1592-1598).
