More than one-fourth of South Korean school children have experienced cyber bullying in recent months, a survey said on Monday.

About 27.7 percent of respondents said they suffered cyber bullying over the past three months, said the survey of 4,000 middle and high school students nationwide conducted between May and June.

Lee Chang-ho, a researcher at the National Youth Policy Institute, made public the results of the survey at a forum on Internet bullying at schools, which was held at the National Assembly building in Yeouido, Seoul. The event was hosted by Rep. Yun Jae-ok of the ruling Saenuri Party.

The respondents cited the leakage of personal information in cyberspace as the most frequent type of bullying (12.1 percent), followed by bullying through online games (10.2 percent), and refusing to accept friend requests on the mobile messenger Kakao Talk or excluding someone from a Kakao chat room (7.5 percent), the survey said.
