The selection was made at a meeting of the team's coaching staff members in Amman, Jordan, Wednesday.

Koo, 25, was captain of the national football team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The national team, led by head coach Uli Stielike, is set to play its final pre-Asian Cup friendly matches against Jordan on Nov. 14 and Iran Nov. 18.

At the Asian Cup tournament to be held in January, South Korea will play in Group A alongside Oman, Kuwait and host Australia.
