South Korean power-hitting infielder Kang Jung-ho is on Pittsburgh Pirates' 25-man roster for its MLB opener against Cincinnati Reds on April 7 (local time). MLB.com columnist Bernie Pleskoff said "Kang brings Bucs power potential." In January, the Pirates signed him to a four-year contract with a club option for a fifth year. Kang hit .356 with 40 home runs and 117 RBIs in 501 plate appearances last season for the Nexen Heroes of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO).
