Samsung's wearable device "Gear Fit", a watch-shaped fitness tracking device was a hit and the company officially announced Friday the latest version of Gear Fit series, "Gear Fit 2".
The biggest change in the latest Gear Fit model from the previous is that it is equipped with a GPS module. Many fitness tracker users saw GPS module was an essential feature to a fitness tracker since it records and tracks its wearer, later providing whereabouts on places they went. Samsung was quick to apply the users' demand. The GPS module in Gear Fit 2 tracks running and cycling records accurately.
"Living a healthy lifestyle is a top priority for consumers to enjoy fulfilling lives. Our wearable technology can enhance existing routines and blend fitness and fun" said Lee Young-hee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing at Samsung Electronics.
Gear Fit 2 features 1.5-inch (216 x 432) curved Super AMOLED touchscreen display, GPS, an accelerometer, gyroscope, and barometer. The Gear Fit 2 also has a heart monitor which could automatically track runs or activities by detecting a rise in heartbeat rate. The fitness tracker can also link up with Samsung's "S Health" or other fitness tracking apps and provide its user with detailed fitness record or suggest different kinds of activities.
The device is IP68 water resistant, meaning it could be used when swimming (not diving) and comes with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage, and 200mAHh battery.
The Gear Fit 2 will be released in three color variants- Black, Blue, and Pink. It is priced at 179 US dollars and will be available from June 10, 201
