South Korean activists Thursday launched propaganda balloons carrying some 150,000 leaflets that blasted North Korea's latest nuclear test and leader Kim Jong-un's dictatorship.
The activists led by Park Sang-hak, a defector from North Korea, used five large propaganda balloons to send the leaflets in a border town north of Seoul.
Pyongyang has repeatedly threatened to open fire at the sites for balloon launches. In October 2014, North Korean troops opened fire in an attempt to shoot down a set of balloons, sparking a brief exchange of fire across the border.
Park has been on North Korea's hit list, but he has vowed to send a total of 10 million leaflets this year since the first launch began in March.
Thursday's balloon launch marked Chuseok, a major traditional holiday. For Chuseok, the equivalent to Thanksgiving in the United States, many South Koreans visit hometowns for ancestral rituals and family reunions.
