South Korean health authorities have launched a probe into a "certification selfie" showing a group of doctors standing in a cadaver dissection room with their arms folded.

The picture was posted by an Instagram user who participated in an anatomy dissection practice at a medical college in Seoul with a phrase reading "Saturday's workshop ... very beneficial ... stimulating."

The doctors wearing scrubs and surgical masks were seen standing in front of a dissected leg.

Embarrassed by an online public fury, the health ministry moved to stop the picture from spreading through social networking services and launched a probe for possible legal punishment. A medical act on "polite and courteous" handling of donated bodies and violators face a penalty of 500,000 won (437 US dollars) or less.

Separately, the Korean Medical Association, a coalition of doctors, promised to refer the case to an ethics committee for disciplinary action.

Many South Koreans share "certification selfies" on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as an alibi to brag about their special experiences.
