Bilzerian became an Instagram star with his posts of hyper-sexual, luxurious and macho lifestyle photos and videos, and earned his nickname, the "King of Instagram". He formally was in U.S. Navy but was discharged for a medical reason. He often bragged about his prowess and gun collection. Bilzerian notoriously wrote on his Instagram, "My greatest fear is that someone will break in & I won't be able to decide what # gun to shoot them with" and posted a photo of his collection of firearms laid out on a table, garnering praises and criticism from his followers. Dan Bilzerian has 23 million followers on his Instagram account.

U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Sergeant Dakota Meyer who is the first living Marine to receive the Medal of Honor, criticized Bilzerian Tuesday on Instagram with the capture of a video the Instagram star posted as the Las Vegas shooting happened. Meyer captioned the photo, " This is why children shouldn't classify heroes by their followers or their photos", and directly addressed Bilzerian, "@danbilzerian this is what kills me about people like you. Always playing "operator dress up" and so so tough when the cameras are on."

The video Meyer mentioned is taken by Bilzerian. As the shooting happened, he started recording what was going on around him as he ran away from the concert place. In the video, it showed a woman getting shot in the head but Bilzerian just ran away to safety.

The Marine vet addressed Bilzerian's actions and criticized, "A woman just got shot in the head and you are running away filming that's not what operators do. Please stop trying to be someone your not. People are dying. you're running away not helping them and pretending it's worthy of a video is disgusting."

Bilzerian is a notoriously gun fanatic who often takes pictures of himself in military attire. He later claimed in his second video that he was running to get his gun. However, in another video he posted, he said, "I don't think there's much I can do."

Sergeant Dakota Meyer is a United States Marine Corps veteran. He famously received the Medal of Honor, the military's highest honor, for his actions during the Battle of Gangijal in 2009. Meyer single-handedly saved 36 Marines and soldiers, and recovered the bodies of fellow soldiers. With his heroic action, the battle tide turned and Meyer left no man behind.

Bilzerian retorted on his Twitter account Wednesday to Meyer and another Marine who accused him and posted a photo of himself handling something in white tarp at the shooting scene with caption, "Look another video of me not doing sh-- you 2 f------ morons should stick to sh-- you know about, like j--king each other off and vloggin".
