SEOUL, Dec. 22 (Aju News) --
Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao revealed his strong interest in renewable energy sources during his inspection of a solar power plant built on a rural farmland in South Korea.
Pacquiao, a senator, visited the plant operated by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), a state nuclear power operator, in Gapyeong some 50 kilometers (31 miles) northeast of Seoul on Friday. Solar panels were built diagonally over rice paddocks.
The legendary boxer called for cooperation with South Korea in renewable energy as he seeks the development of his country's solar power industry, according to KHNP officials.
"The solar power plant is drawing positive feedbacks from farmers as it has no damage to the farming grounds," KHNP head Lee Kwan-sup said, vowing cooperation with the Philippines.
Pacquiao, who visited Seoul a year ago for his vacation, will spend his Christmas holiday in South Korea with his family and appear in a popular comedy show.
