SEOUL -- A new seafood restaurant named by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un opened in Pyongyang this week, with its indoor ponds teemed with delicious fishes like sturgeon, shellfish and turtles and the angling site on the first floor.
The Pyongyang Taedonggang Seafood Restaurant, built in a peculiar style on the river bank, started its operation on Monday, according to the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
The restaurant depicting a floating boat has indoor ponds teemed with sturgeon, leather carp, salmon, rainbow trout and other delicious fish as well as shellfish, turtles and the angling site on the first floor, KCNA said, adding its second and third floors are arranged with various forms of dining rooms and counters selling processed seafood,.
Visitors will be served with cooked and processed tasty and nutritious, fresh seafood, the agency said. In an opening address, Army General Kim Su-gil, director of the General Political Bureau, eulogized Kim for bringing "a civilized and happy life" to citizens, it said.
For his field guidance in early June, Kim visited the seafood restaurant to name it, saying it would become a famous place serving foreign quests in Pyongyang to match Okrugwan, the North's most famous traditional restaurant known for handmade cold noodles called Naengmyeon.
Naengmyeon, which originated in the northern part of the Korean peninsula, grabbed international attention in April when a top Okryugwan chef was dispatched for a summit dinner for Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the truce village of Panmunjom.
