SEOUL -- Lee Han-saem, a defender of Asan Mugunghwa FC, a second-tier professional football league team, received a big cash reward for rejecting an offer to fix games.
In a ceremony Wednesday, the 29-year-old received 70 million won ($62,330) from K League Commissioner Kwon Oh-gap. He refused to accept a pre-game offer from Jang Hak-yong, a former football player, to pay 50 million won in return for fixing a football match in the southern port city of Busan on September 21.
Lee made a quick report to police and Jang was caught in a Busan hotel. Kwon praised Lee for setting a good example in a campaign to root out corruption and match-fixing in the professional football league.
