SEOUL -- LS Cable & Systems, a major South Korean cable maker, unveiled a new bus duct that is optimized for internet data centers (iDCs) and can reduce their power consumption and operating costs. iDC is a place established by a service provider to provide stable and wide-band networks with high-performance computers as a service to customers.
In electric power distribution, a bus duct, also called busway, is a sheet metal duct or cast resin insulated containing either copper or aluminum busbars for the purpose of conducting a substantial current of electricity. Bus ducts are suitable for large-scale electrical systems and provide convenient installation and maintenance as well as safety while minimizing energy loss.
When wires are used in server rooms, it is difficult to move and extend servers. LS Cable said that power devices for bus ducts installed on the ceiling can be designed in a portable way, allowing the server's power cord to be plugged directly into any place.
Data centers have become more important due to increasing data use that requires large-scale power consumption. LS Cable said that its bus duct can contribute to building eco-friendly data centers. "We hope our product specialized for iDC will quickly replace imported products," the company said in a statement.
LS Cable plans to expand its market to renewable energy. The company produces power and telecom cables and systems, as well as integrated modules and other related industrial materials.
