SEOUL -- SM Entertainment, one of South Korea's iconic K-pop powerhouses, will work with a private educational body to establish a K-pop institute aimed at nurturing entertainment specialists. The institute would provide foreign language classes and admit students from South Korea and other countries in March next year.
SM said in a statement on September 9 that the company and Haneul Education would build "SM Institute" for K-pop and pop-culture specialists in Seoul. They established a partnership in 2016 to develop educational programs for those who wish to build their career in the entertainment sector.
"We plan to support students by enabling them to choose various careers based on talent and capabilities they find during their academic training so that they do not have to give up their academic goals to become a global star," SM Institute CEO Choi Jin-young was quoted as saying.
The entertainment company said it hopes to nurture stars in various entertainment sectors to become models, influencers and entertainers. Also, an academy will be operated to help students become actors and entertainment managers.
