SEOUL -- Paper menu boards disappeared at a McDonald's store in a western satellite city of Seoul. Samsung Electronics has provided its smart signage that uses digital technology to deliver images and information. Customers can check food menus, advertisements, and discount events.
Samsung said the drive-thru lane of a McDonald's outlet in Goyang was installed with the smart outdoor signage that allows customers to check menus and order in their cars. Displays that can use the front and back were supplied for the store's show window. Samsung's smart signage has been supplied for digital menu boards in McDonald's stores since 2011.
Samsung said in a statement that its smart signage enables efficient store operations, improves the visibility of menu advertisements, and reduces printing costs and order times. Samsung has also provided a total solution program that enables the remote management of menu contents in real-time at all of McDonald's stores in South Korea.
"The global trend of creating eco-friendly commercial spaces is spreading, and smart signage is in the spotlight as a solution to replace analog billboards that continuously discharge paper and plastic," Ha Hye-sung, a senior vice president of Samsung's visual display business, was quoted as saying. "We will continue to introduce differentiated products and solutions tailored to diverse customers and markets."
Samsung, which is a top player in the global LCD smart signage market, has developed new technologies for digital signage displays.
Samsung said its smart signage provides a significant advantage over the use of static lightbox menus. The use of digital menu boards eliminates maintenance costs as well as expenses related to creating new printouts for static menu boards, the company said, adding the smart signage can deliver a variety of content from images to dynamic videos while providing night and day visibility that is unmatched by analog displays.
The ability of digital menu boards that can be updated in real-time to reflect demand, trends and unexpected events allows businesses to act quickly and efficiently, Samsung said. "Best of all, once these changes are finalized they can be distributed across the entire signage network instantaneously."
"This dynamic, in-the-moment approach provides more engaging experiences for customers and drives both satisfaction and sales," the company said, adding that digital signage allows customers to make quick decisions, especially in quick-service restaurants.
