SEOUL -- An artificial intelligence-based bone age assessment solution created by South Korea's diagnosis technology company VUNO has obtained approval from Taiwan. The solution named "VUNO Med-BoneAge" helps doctors identify the bone age of patients by analyzing X-rays of hand bones.

Taiwan with a population of some 23 million became an aging society with old people aged more than 65 accounting for 16.5 percent of its total population as of 2021 which prompted the island country to accelerate the adoption of digital healthcare products. Data released by global market research firm Statista showed that Taiwan's digital health market is expected to increase to $553.14 million in 2027 from $226.30 in 2021.

VUNO Med-BoneAge was approved by Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration. Using artificial intelligence, the medical solution analyzes X-ray images of hand bones to predict bone age and the potential adult height of children. The solution will be distributed through CHC Healthcare Group, a Taiwan-based medical technology group with various hospital networks. CHC will be in charge of marketing, sales and maintenance.

"Along with VUNO Med-Chest X-ray, we will engage in business activities with local partners so our products can be widely used in Taiwan's medical field," VUNO CEO Lee Ye-ha said in a statement on October 18. VUNO Med-Chest X-ray detects chest diseases through X-ray images.

South Korea has stepped up the development of AI-based robot doctors to efficiently analyze and diagnose the condition of patients based on medical records. In October 2021, South Korea's state research institute developed a robot doctor called "Dr. AI" that collects digitalized medical records to come up with diagnoses and predictions.
