SEOUL -- A transparent organic light-emitting diode (OLED) solution developed by LG Display, a major flat panel maker in South Korea, has been applied to the floor of an SM Entertainment store to maximize the efficiency of promotion effect and space utilization. Various graphic effects and product information were implemented like holograms to provide customers with an unprecedented shopping experience.

LG Display said that its "T-floor" solution can be expanded indefinitely as much as desired by connecting transparent OLED panels like a checkerboard. It can safely withstand a load of visitors and installations by applying tempered glass and is suitable for indoor application by emitting less heat than LEDs.

The T-floor solution was applied for the first time to "Kwangya@Seoul," the flagship store of SM Brand Marketing, an affiliate of SM Entertainment, in eastern Seoul, with 33 55-inch transparent OLED panels installed at the bottom of its lounge to display albums and idol goods. SM nurtures Kwangya as a metaverse experience brand to help fans enjoy K-culture without the boundaries between reality and virtual.

A media display zone introduced smart order services using location-based technology to provide shopping convenience and digital services. An object showcase provides product information and graphic effects in three dimensions.

LG Display's transparent OLEDs have been applied in various areas such as signage, architecture, mobility, and digital art. "We will continue to discover solutions that increase the utilization of various spaces such as floors and walls and ceilings based on the infinite scalability of transparent OLEDs that can be applied anywhere customers want," LG Display's transparent business head Cho Min-woo said in a statement on November 30.

Transparent OLED screens display black content as transparent, allowing designers to overlay digital content such as images, text and video onto real-life objects placed behind the transparent screen. LG Display has developed bendable, foldable and rollable OLED panels. The company is now involved in a project to develop stretchable displays which are seen as the final phase of flexible display technologies.
