The technology created by the software company in the southern port city of Busan automatically is designed to analyzes container loading conditions using light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensors, which measure the distance with target objects through laser beams, and closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs). After classifying the conditions in three stages, the solution informs human managers.
Busan said in a press release on February 24 that a patent application for Seoahn SNC's solution was submitted. The research and development project for an automatic monitoring system is supported by Busan's municipal office and the Ministry of Science and ICT. A total of 14 billion won ($10.7 million) will be injected between 2020 and 2025.
The Busan Port Authority (BPA) was listed as the sixth-largest port operator in the world as of 2019. In the first half of 2022, a total of 11.21 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) were handled at the Busan port. Although TEU is an inexact unit of cargo capacity, it is still frequently used to describe the capacity of container ships.
