SEOUL --  Taihan Cable & Solution, a power cable and grid infrastructure company in South Korea, has partnered with London-based infrastructure group Balfour Beatty to take part in power transmission and distribution projects in Britain. The combined projects have a total value exceeding $275 million.

Taihan Cable said on November 24 that the company will work with the British group specializing in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) for power grid projects. Balfour Beatty, with an annual revenue of about 15 trillion won ($11.4 billion), is also engaged in the London Power Tunnels Phase 2 (LPT2), a project designed to establish power grid infrastructure through the construction of an approximately 32.5-kilometer (20.1-mile) underground tunnel in London.

By 2030, the South Korean company will participate in various transmission and distribution projects totaling more than 220 million pounds ($275.7 million). Taihan Cable will provide a 400-kilovolt (KV)-class power grid for the LPT2. A kilovolt is equal to 1000 volts. "By working with one of the most influential groups in the United Kingdom, we will continuously upgrade our position in the power grid business," an unnamed Taihan Cable official said in a statement.

The company also announced that it has secured an order worth approximately 36 billion won to establish power grid infrastructure, aimed at improving the natural scenery of the North Wessex Downs region. Taihan Cable will provide the 400 kV power grid and carry out electrical work for the project, led by the British electricity utility company National Grid. Balfour Beatty will handle the EPC tasks.
