SEOUL -- Action-comedy film "The Roundup: Punishment," directed by Heo Myung-haeng, is about to be released in South Korea. This action film serves as the fourth installment of the detective series that began in 2017 with the hit movie "The Outlaws." Starring Ma Dong-seok, also known by his English name Don Lee, the film depicts the story of a tough detective who tackles an illegal online gambling organization.
According to South Korean film production company ABO Entertainment, The Roundup: Punishment will hit theaters on April 24. Don Lee will play the detective who takes down a villain who operates online gambling dens. "The Roundup," the sequel to The Outlaws, was released in 2022 and attracted more than 12.6 million viewers in South Korea, with a population of about 52 million. The threequel, "The Roundup: No Way Out," garnered 10.6 million admissions.
Don Lee has received immense popularity for playing aggressive characters such as a moneylender and a gangster. The 53-year-old appeared in more than 80 films including a 2016 zombie thriller hit film "Train to Busan" and "The Bad Guys: Reign of Chaos," a 2019 action film. Although he has mainly played tough roles in South Korea's film scene, the celebrity has always maintained his comedic image. Lee also made his Hollywood debut through a 2021 superhero film "Eternals."
