SEOUL, April 09 (AJU PRESS) - South Korea's state-run television network, KBS, is set to debut a unique music variety show featuring both artificial intelligence (AI) and human performers. Titled "Synchro You," the program will challenge the studio audience to differentiate between AI singers and their human counterparts.

The first episode of Synchro You will air on May 10. The show will be hosted by a star-studded lineup, including South Korean variety show mainstay Yoo Jae-suk, Hoshi from the popular boy band Seventeen, and Karina of the girl group aespa. KBS is currently recruiting audience members for the innovative music program.

The rise of AI technology is demonstrably reshaping South Korea's entertainment industry. In December 2020, Big Hit Music, home to global superstars BTS and TXT, staged a virtual concert featuring a posthumous collaboration with the late singer Shin Hae-chul. A pioneer of South Korea's experimental rock scene, Shin was tragically killed in a medical accident in 2014. Through the magic of AI and hologram technology, he was brought back to the stage for a one-night-only performance.

More recently, Supertone, the AI audio technology subsidiary of the BTS agency, successfully recreated the voice of Kim Hyeok-geon, a South Korean singer who was paralyzed in a car accident in 2012. In December 2023, a music program aired a performance featuring Kim singing alongside a virtual version of himself, a testament to the growing influence of AI in the entertainment sphere.
