The company held a ceremony on Monday to mark the completion of the solar power system, which will generate electricity for self-consumption at the plant, eliminating concerns of distribution losses.
SK Ecoplant aims to expand its rooftop solar power projects to other industrial sites in Viet Nam, including Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Hai Phong, with a combined capacity of 7 megawatts.
Although electricity demand in Viet Nam is high, the supply is insufficient to meet the demand, according to the company. Additionally, the power grid is not densely established, leading to frequent power shortages and outages.
The Vietnamese government is encouraging rooftop solar power projects by easing regulations.
The self-consumption model adopted by SK Ecoplant allows industrial facilities to generate their own electricity on-site, reducing reliance on the grid and mitigating the impact of power shortages.
