SEOUL, July 15 (AJU PRESS) - The number of Korean YouTubers and social media content creators under 30 years old earning more than 100 million won ($72,400) annually has more than doubled in two years, according to data from the National Tax Service (NTS) on Monday.

The NTS reported that in 2022, 1,324 YouTubers aged in their 20s or younger reported incomes exceeding 100 million won, up from 528 in 2020. They accounted for the largest portion among high earners, followed by those in their 30s with 1,071, those in their 40s with 273, and those aged 50 or older 113.

Some 80 percent of them, or 31,481 individuals, reported their annual income below 25 million won.

However, the data excludes donations made directly to YouTubers' personal bank accounts during live streams, which currently fall outside the tax authority's purview. This omission has raised concerns about potential tax evasion and the need for improved regulatory measures.
