Reverse osmosis is a water purification process that uses a partially permeable membrane to separate water molecules from other substances.
The LG Chem's membranes will be responsible for more than half of Oman's total desalination capacity once the project is complete. LG Chem's reverse osmosis membrane boasts a world-leading salt removal rate of 99.89 percent while requiring less energy for the desalination process.
"We are pleased to participate in the Ghubrah Phase III Desalination Project, which will become a major water source for Oman," said Hyung Hoon, head of LG Chem's RO membrane business. "We will strive to provide clean and sustainable water supply alongside our customers."
This contract marks LG Chem's fourth major desalination project in Oman since 2016, solidifying its position in the country's water treatment market. Oman, with its arid climate, is focusing on large-scale desalination projects as part of its '2040 Vision' long-term national plan to secure water resources.
