The Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency said its investigators recently raided Taihan Cable's headquarters and offices and are examining seized documents as part of the probe.
Previously, the police booked Taihan Cable and a construction design firm, which is suspected of obtaining information related to submarine cable technologies from LS Cable when it was responsible for building the company’s cable plants and subsequently leaking the information to Taihan Cable.
The police have not disclosed detailed information on the investigation.
Taihan Cable dismissed the allegations as groundless. In a statement released Monday, the company denied accusations of stealing or using LS Cable's trade secrets and argued that the layout of the submarine cable plant is not a core technology.
The cable firm also argued that blocking Taihan Cable's market entry with unverified claims could harm national competitiveness in submarine cables and offshore wind power, potentially leaving the country's cable market vulnerable to foreign competitors, such as those from China.
