SEOUL, September 23 (AJP) - SK hynix announced Monday the integration of key features from its Heterogeneous Memory Software Development Kit (HMSDK) into Linux, the world’s largest open-source operating system. HMSDK optimizes the performance of Compute Express Link (CXL) memory, a next-generation interface for high-performance computing systems.

The company’s software solution enhances bandwidth by 30 percent and improves performance by over 12 percent compared to existing systems. HMSDK achieves this by allocating memory differentially based on bandwidth between existing and expanded CXL memory, and by moving frequently accessed data to faster memory.

SK hynix is currently working on customer certification for 96GB and 128GB CXL 2.0 memory, with plans for mass production by the end of the year. This aligns with the expected launch of the first server CPUs featuring CXL 2.0 specifications in the latter half of this year.

Joo Young-pyo, Vice President of Software Solution at SK hynix, said, “To support the development and spread of AI such as large language models, we now need to greatly improve the level of system applications as well as semiconductors.”

He added that this Linux integration will help SK hynix strengthen its position as a “total AI memory solution company” while contributing to technological innovation and ecosystem expansion in the field.
