SEOUL, December 12 (AJP) - The National Election Commission (NEC) on Thursday sharply criticized President Yoon Suk Yeol's allegations of election fraud, calling his actions “unconstitutional and unlawful.”

Yoon had earlier claimed that he ordered the former defense chief, Kim Yong-hyun, to inspect the NEC’s voting system during the Dec. 3 martial law declaration. The president raised concerns over potential cyberattacks from North Korea, casting doubt on the integrity of the recent election.

In a strongly worded statement, the NEC dismissed these claims as “baseless.” The commission argued that Yoon’s suspicions were unfounded and amounted to a “self-denial of the electoral management system through which he was elected president.”

The NEC also condemned the deployment of approximately 300 troops to election offices in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province after the martial law was called. The commission described this action as an “unauthorized occupation” and an attempt to seize electronic servers, both of which it deemed unconstitutional and unlawful.

The NEC urged relevant authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate legal action.
