SEOUL, December 23 (AJP) - A total of 668 individuals have completed a program operated by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) to cultivate skilled semiconductor specialists and obtained jobs in the semiconductor industry over the past three years.
This initiative is a crucial part of South Korea's efforts to bolster its semiconductor workforce amid fierce global competition. Recognizing the surging demand, the KCCI plans to expand its training curriculum.
This success comes as South Korea prepares to unveil its first three-year plan to bolster supply chain resilience across key sectors, including semiconductors. The plan prioritizes expanding domestic production and developing a robust workforce.
"Enhancing industrial competitiveness is an indispensable task that cannot be compromised, regardless of recent domestic political events," emphasized Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok at a ministerial meeting held at Hanwha Ocean's R&D campus in Siheung.
The government's three-pronged approach to enhancing supply chain resilience includes a stabilization fund, the Corporate Vitality Enhancement Act, and targeted customs measures.
The plan also contemplates relaxing business restructuring standards for struggling sectors like petrochemicals and implementing anti-dumping duties when necessary.
