SEOUL, January 8 (AJP) - Netflix's megahit South Korean series "Squid Game" has remained at the top of its chart for the non-English shows for the second consecutive week after its release late last month, the U.S. streaming giant said on Wednesday.

Despite mixed reactions to the dystopian thriller's second season since its release on Dec. 26, it garnered 58.2 million views during the week ending last Sunday, securing the top spot in over 90 countries.

It has accumulated a total of 126.2 million views in less than two weeks, making it one of Netflix's most-watched series of all time.

The show's first season, released in September 2021, generated immense hype for its follow-up, which earned a Golden Globe nomination even before its release, although it failed to win any gongs at the annual awards event which wrapped up in California last week.

But the series' director Hwang Dong-huk earlier hinted that the show's story and theme would "become much clearer" in the upcoming season, which is slated for release later this year, raising expectations.

"Squid Game" revolves around desperate people who risk their lives in a series of games for high-stakes money.
