SEOUL, February 04 (AJP) - Samsung Engineering & Construction Americas (E&A) has secured a $1.7 billion contract to build a methanol plant in the United Arab Emirates, the company said Tuesday.

The project, awarded by UAE's state oil company ADNOC, involves constructing a facility capable of producing 5,000 tons of methanol per day at the Taziz Industrial Complex in Ruwais. The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract covers a construction period of 44 months.

The contract was signed on Friday in Abu Dhabi, with Samsung E&A President Nam Gung-hong and Taziz CEO Marshal Al Kindi attending the ceremony. The company plans to apply innovative technologies including modularization and automation, leveraging experience from its recently completed methanol project in Malaysia.

"We secured this project based on the client's trust in our successful methanol project experience and differentiated technology," a Samsung E&A official said.

The official added that the company aims to "contribute to UAE's economic diversification and strengthen our position in the Middle East through successful project execution."

The new facility will be built in the Taziz Industrial Complex, part of the Ruwais Industrial Area, marking another significant step in Samsung E&A's expansion in the Middle Eastern market.
