Seoul and surrounding metropolitan areas saw up to 7 centimeters of snow overnight, tapering to flurries by early morning.
The heaviest snow fell in mountainous Gangwon Province, with Cheorwon accumulating 17.3 centimeters, Hwacheon 16.6 centimeters, and Chuncheon 11.9 centimeters.
The KMA forecast that most eastern and southern parts of the country could see an additional 5 to 10 centimeters of snow or rain later in the day.
Meanwhile, subzero temperatures are expected to linger through the mid-week, but the cold snap is forecast to gradually ease on Wednesday, coinciding with Ipchun, the official beginning of spring by the lunar calendar.
