SEOUL, June 9 (AJP) - President Lee Jae Myung left for Europe on Tuesday to attend the Group of Seven (G7) summit in France.

During his nearly two-week trip, which will take him to Belgium, Italy and the Vatican from June 9 to 18, Lee will make his first stop in Brussels to meet with South Koreans living there.

Lee is then scheduled to hold talks with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever and King Philippe, as the two countries mark the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.

Lee will also meet with European Council president António Costa and European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, which comes about a year after they met on the sidelines of last year's G7 gathering in Canada.

Later in the week, Lee will travel to Italy to meet President Sergio Mattarella and hold talks with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, whom he met on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York in September last year and again during her official visit to Seoul in January.

Before attending the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France on June 15-17, Lee will visit the Vatican for a meeting with Pope Leo XIV, roughly a year after the pontiff's inauguration in May last year.

U.S. President Donald Trump is also expected to attend the G7 summit.
