The Lotte Scholarship Foundation has continued its charitable activities in Cambodia by providing free medical services and renovating a school library.
On June 5-6, the foundation held the '2026 Shin Kyuk-ho Lotte Overseas Medical Service Cambodia' at the Cambodian Youth Federation headquarters in Phnom Penh, offering free medical consultations to 917 local residents.
The initiative involved 22 doctors from the Korean Orthopedic Association, along with nurses, volunteers, and foundation staff, totaling 44 participants. They operated four medical departments: orthopedics, internal medicine, dentistry, and plastic surgery, with a total investment of 65 million won for medical expenses. Residents were recruited with the help of the Phyabihan Kamsarang Foundation.
The Shin Kyuk-ho Lotte Overseas Medical Service was launched last year to provide free medical care to residents in areas with inadequate healthcare infrastructure, marking its second iteration this year.
Jang Hye-seon, chairperson of the Lotte Scholarship Foundation, stated, "When we conducted our first medical service last year, we were overwhelmed by the number of people seeking treatment and expressing their gratitude, which made us realize how desperately our help was needed. Despite various challenges, including unstable international conditions, we are pleased to continue our medical services in Cambodia."
Following the medical service, a library opening ceremony was held on June 8 at Ewha Sreang School. The Lotte Scholarship Foundation collaborated with the Asia Education Volunteer Association, investing approximately 35 million won to remodel the library over three months starting in March.
The previous library faced issues with ventilation and leaks, making it difficult for students to use. The renovation included the installation of essential equipment such as computers, projector screens, desks, and chairs, along with new Khmer language books and non-fiction titles for youth.
Ewha Sreang School was established by faculty from Ewha Womans University, who voluntarily raised funds to support education for local children and youth.
Jang emphasized, "With the library now providing a conducive environment for studying, I hope students will continue to work hard and grow into outstanding adults. Remember, each one of you can shine in the world."
Additionally, starting in 2024, the Lotte Scholarship Foundation plans to sign memorandums of understanding with four universities in Cambodia to continue providing scholarship support.
