Cosmecca Korea, a cosmetics manufacturer and developer, is launching a project to develop next-generation liposome materials that closely mimic skin lipid structures to enhance its competitive edge in the K-beauty market.

The company aims to advance the fundamental delivery system for active ingredients beyond simple ingredient combinations, targeting the global skincare market.

On June 10, Cosmecca Korea announced it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Professor Shim Jong-won’s research team at Dongduk Women's University to collaborate on liposome research and development.

Liposomes are microscopic particles with structures similar to skin lipids, serving as a key technology in cosmetics for the stable delivery of active ingredients. Recent advancements have expanded their research scope to enhance skin affinity and barrier care functions beyond mere ingredient delivery.

The joint research will focus on developing liposome design technology that mimics skin lipid structures. Cosmecca Korea and the Dongduk University research team will work together to enhance the stability of active ingredients and improve skin application.

Additionally, they plan to validate the efficacy and safety of raw materials to broaden the potential for high-functionality skincare applications.

A representative from Cosmecca Korea stated, "This collaboration will enable us to overcome the limitations of existing liposome materials and secure next-generation technology that precisely designs lipid structures. We will continue to strengthen our unique material competitiveness to proactively respond to the evolving demands of the global cosmetics market."

Professor Shim Jong-won emphasized, "Understanding the principles and formation processes of complex skin lipid arrangements is crucial to this research. We aim to establish a model of industry-academia cooperation that secures both academic value and industrial practicality through functional and stable lipid molecular arrangement technology."

Cosmecca Korea is accelerating its research and development (R&D) and production infrastructure enhancements.

On June 5, the company decided to acquire a factory and land in Ochang-eup, Cheongju, worth 64 billion won. This acquisition amount represents 10.13% of the total assets of 631.8 billion won as of the end of last year.

The company aims to increase its current production capacity of 1.3 billion units annually to meet diverse orders from global clients, including skincare, hydrogel masks, and sun care products.

In 2025, Cosmecca Korea recorded its highest-ever performance with consolidated sales of 640.9 billion won and an operating profit of 83.4 billion won. In the first quarter of this year, the sales of its Korean subsidiary surged 91.3% year-on-year to 142.2 billion won, while operating profit rose 120.8% to 17.8 billion won, marking a record quarterly performance.
