The U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 4.2% in May compared to the same month last year, the Labor Department reported on June 10. This marks the highest increase in over three years, since April 2023.
The increase aligns with forecasts compiled by Dow Jones. Month-over-month, the CPI rose 0.5%, also meeting expectations.
Excluding the volatile categories of food and energy, the core CPI increased by 2.9% year-over-year and 0.2% from the previous month.
The year-over-year increase met projections, while the month-over-month rise fell short of the anticipated 0.3%.
