President Lee Begins Vatican Visit with Special Mass and Speech

President Lee Jae-myung of South Korea will begin his visit to the Vatican on June 14, 2026.

On this day, President Lee will conclude his schedule in Italy and attend a special mass for peace and solidarity at St. Peter's Basilica, where he is expected to deliver a commemorative speech.

In his address, President Lee is anticipated to convey South Korea's firm commitment to peace and solidarity amid a rapidly changing international landscape, while also seeking support and attention for peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Additionally, he will meet with Cardinal Yoo Heung-sik, the first Korean appointed as the Minister of Clergy at the Vatican, along with other Korean clergy members gathered from various regions.

The following day, on June 15, President Lee will hold a private meeting with Pope Leo XIII at the papal residence and is also scheduled to meet with Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State.
