SK Plasma announced that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for its plasma fractionation plant in the Çubuk district of Ankara, Turkey, on June 15.

This project is part of a shareholder agreement between SK Plasma and the Turkish Red Crescent, under which they established a joint venture, ProTurk. The facility will cover approximately 36,000 square meters and is designed to process 600,000 liters of plasma annually. It will produce products such as albumin, immunoglobulin, and factor VIII. The plant is expected to be completed in the second half of 2028, with commercial production targeted for 2030.

Once operational, Turkey aims to enhance the stability of its plasma fractionation supply, reducing its reliance on imports.

As a technology partner, SK Plasma will support the transfer of plasma fractionation technology, the establishment of production facilities, quality control, and personnel training, while holding a 15% stake in the joint venture. Until commercial production begins, the company will also engage in contract manufacturing (CMO) by processing plasma into finished products at its facility in Andong.

SK Plasma's self-sufficiency model for plasma fractionation goes beyond mere product exports, combining technology transfer, facility establishment, operational support, and equity participation. The company has demonstrated its capabilities through projects in countries like Indonesia and Turkey, aiming to expand this self-sufficiency model for essential medicines as a new pillar of K-Bio.

CEO Kim Seung-joo stated, "We will establish a stable supply system based on our production bases in Indonesia and Turkey and expand our business into the European and Middle Eastern markets."
